A Kansas mom was sentenced to probation Thursday for the death of her 17-month-old son, who died in a house fire prosecutors say was set by the child's father.

The mother, whose name has not been released, pleaded guilty to child endangerment and was sentenced to two years' probation. The father, who has not been identified, is facing charges of first-degree murder and arson in the death of his son.

Prosecutors say the father set fire to the home in Wichita in March, killing the child and injuring the mother and another child. The mother was able to escape with the other child, but the toddler died in the blaze.

The father is scheduled to appear in court next month. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
