When Laura Harth of Safeguard Defenders warned that China's reported police service stations abroad are expanding the communist regime's international footprint, few people paid attention. But now, with a Fox News investigation revealing that these so-called "police service stations" are actually being used to spy on and intimidate Chinese nationals living abroad, people are starting to take notice.
These police service stations are ostensibly designed to help Chinese nationals who find themselves in trouble while abroad. But in reality, they are being used to collect information on Chinese citizens living overseas and to spread the Communist Party's propaganda.
The Fox News investigation found that these police service stations are often staffed by former members of the People's Liberation Army or the Chinese Communist Party's internal security forces. They have been dispatched to countries all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
In addition to collecting information on Chinese nationals living abroad, these police service stations are also being used to intimidate them into returning to China. In some cases, family members of those who have fled China have been harassed and even detained in an effort to force them to return.
This is a worrying development, as it shows that the Chinese government is increasingly willing to use its resources to track down and silence its critics abroad. This is yet another example of the Communist Party's attempts to extend its control beyond China's borders and tighten its grip on power.
