On December 31, 2020, officers received a complaint about an attack by Dr. Phil Magness directed towards Anthony Fauci. According to the complainant, Dr. Magness is the founder of the American Institute for Economic Research and was responsible for crafting the Great Barrington Declaration. The complainant alleged that on December 29th, Dr. Magness publicly attacked Dr. Fauci ahead of his retirement from public service in 2021.
The complainant stated that this attack was unwarranted and uncalled for as it was not necessary to do so in order to make a point or express an opinion regarding the economic impacts of COVID-19 restrictions and safety measures.
Officers conducted research into the matter and discovered that Dr. Magness had indeed made several critical statements about Dr. Fauci's record on public health during a press conference held on December 29th in which he discussed the Great Barrington Declaration's plan to reopen businesses quickly while still keeping citizens safe from COVID-19 infection rates.
Based on these findings, officers concluded that Dr. Phil Magness had committed an act of verbal assault against Dr. Anthony Fauci and believe that his actions were inappropriate given the circumstances and time frame surrounding his retirement from public service in 2021.
The case remains open and ongoing as officers continue their investigation into this matter further and will update this report as additional information becomes available.
