Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, suggested on Twitter that he would be interested in helping to revive the country's struggling economy.

"I am considering taking over the failed state of Ukraine," Musk tweeted. "Let me know if you think this is a good idea."

Shafer responded to Musk's tweet with an article published on Oct. 4, in which he argued that the tech mogul was displaying symptoms of histrionic personality disorder.

"In case you're wondering whether Elon Musk is suffering from a personality disorder, I can report that he appears to be afflicted with histrionic personality disorder," Shafer wrote.

He went on to list several examples of what he saw as Musk's histrionic behavior, including his "erratic" tweeting, his public feuds with other business leaders, and his "self-aggrandizing" statements.

Shafer concluded by saying that while Musk's histrionic behavior might be entertaining to some, it could also have serious consequences for his businesses.

"At some point, Musk's shtick will stop being amusing and start harming Tesla and SpaceX," Shafer wrote. "When that happens, we'll all suffer."
