Kane, who was acquired by the Oilers in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres last month, was hurt when he was slashed by Lightning defenseman Braydon Coburn in the third period.
The Oilers said Kane underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to repair a tendon in his right wrist.
"Evander Kane is a key player on our team and we are disappointed that he will be out of the lineup for an extended period of time," Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli said in a statement. "We are confident that Evander will make a full recovery and will be an important contributor to our team when he returns."
Kane has six goals and two assists in 15 games with the Oilers this season. He had 20 goals and 15 assists in 61 games with the Sabres before being traded.
