Cavuto, who will step down as host of “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on July 4 after 20 years at the helm, said the network’s approach to business news was a departure from the more elitist CNBC.

“We said we were going to treat the little guy as if he was the big guy,” Cavuto told The Post. “We weren’t going to condescend. We weren’t going to use jargon that nobody understood. We were just going to tell them what was going on.”

Cavuto, who started at Fox News in 1996, helped launch the business network in 2007. He said he was drawn to Fox because of its commitment to fair and balanced journalism.

“I saw an opportunity for a network that would do things differently, that would take on sacred cows regardless of which party controlled Congress or the White House,” Cavuto said.

He added that he wanted Fox Business to be “the grown-ups’ table” in contrast to what he saw as CNBC’s focus on “the latest stock tip or gossip.”

Cavuto said he is proud of how Fox Business has changed the landscape of business news and given a voice to Main Street investors.

“We empowered people who never felt they had a seat at the table before, whether it was on Wall Street or in Washington, D.C.,” Cavuto said. “We gave them a sense that they mattered — and they do matter. They always have mattered. They just never had anyone fighting for them before.”
