I'm a Soviet Defector, and I'm Thankful for the Freedoms America Gives Me on Thanksgiving

I arrived in America thirty years ago on Thanksgiving day. I was one of the lucky ones. I was able to leave the former Soviet Union and I am especially thankful for the freedoms America gives me and my family on this Thanksgiving day.

Every day I thank God I am here. In the Soviet Union, I was not free to practice my religion or speak my mind. Here, I can do both. I am also thankful for the opportunities America has given me. I have been able to get a good education and work hard to provide for my family.

On this Thanksgiving day, I want to express my gratitude to America for giving me and my family a better life. We are truly blessed to be here.
