The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a kite surfer who was clinging to wooden debris off the Texas Gulf Coast shortly afternoon on Saturday.

The surfer, identified as John Doe, was reported missing at around noon after he failed to return from a kite surfing trip. His family contacted the Coast Guard and provided them with his last known location.

A search and rescue crew was dispatched to the area and found Doe clinging to a piece of wood about two miles offshore. He was wearing a life jacket and appeared to be in good condition, according to the Coast Guard.

The surfer was taken back to shore and reunited with his family. There is no word on what caused him to go missing or how he ended up in the water.
