It had been almost thirty-four years since Donna Reed, the beloved star of 'It's a Wonderful Life', passed away due to cancer. Her daughter Mary Owen was determined to keep her mother's legacy alive and she made sure that everyone remembered the woman who had brought so much joy and hope into their lives.
Mary Owen began by setting up a website dedicated to her mother's life, career and humanitarian work. She also started an online petition asking for the restoration of her mother's star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame which was granted in 2020.
The world was reminded of Donna Reed when Mary Owen produced a documentary about her mother’s life and career called “Donna Reed: A Star is Born” which not only celebrated Donna’s life but also highlighted her many charitable works throughout her lifetime.
On the anniversary of Donna Reed’s death, Mary Owen created a foundation in honor of her mother which provides scholarships to young female actors in need as well as grants for aspiring filmmakers.
Mary Owen also serves as an ambassador for The Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts which is dedicated to preserving the legacy of her late mother while inspiring generations of future performers across all mediums.
One thing is certain - thank goodness Mary Owen is determined to keep Donna Reed’s memory alive, otherwise we would have lost one of Hollywood’s greatest stars far too soon!
