Max Scherzer's terrible start costs the Mets in a big way!

Published: 08-10-2022 03:55

The Mets shelled out a record 3 million to Max Scherzer this year for the express purpose of having him lead them to a World Series title in October.

Instead, Scherzer had the worst start of his season last night, giving up four home runs in a loss to the Nationals.

It was a stunning performance by the seven-time Cy Young winner, who had been virtually untouchable since joining the Mets.

Scherzer's struggles were a microcosm of the team's as a whole last night, as they were unable to muster much offense against Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg.

The Mets will need Scherzer to be at his best if they're going to have any chance of winning it all this year. Last night's disappointing outing will only add to the pressure he'll be feeling going forward.
