Pfizer's Paxlovid May Cause Resurgence of COVID Symptoms, Government

When it comes to the coronavirus, there is still a lot that scientists don’t know.

But one thing they have been able to determine is that people who experience a resurgence of symptoms after taking Pfizer’s antiviral COVID medication, Paxlovid, may be doing so because their immune system is responding robustly.

This is according to U.S. government researchers, who say that this finding could help explain why some people seem to get better after taking the medication, only to have their symptoms return later on.

The researchers say that this is likely not a cause for concern, as it appears to be a sign that the medication is working as it should.

Pfizer’s chief medical officer, Dr. Albert Bourla, echoed this sentiment, saying that the company is “confident in the safety and efficacy” of its medication.

Still, the findings highlight how much remains unknown about the coronavirus and the best ways to treat it.
