A Georgia K-9 deputy helped drug agents find 72K worth of fentanyl tablets at a Hall County delivery hub last week that had been sent from California, officials said.
The shipment of more than 400 grams of the powerful synthetic opioid was seized on Tuesday after a search warrant was executed at a home on Ga. 13 in unincorporated Hall County, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Authorities began investigating the home after receiving "credible information" that it was being used to receive and distribute narcotics, the release said. A search of the residence turned up several hundred pills that tested positive for fentanyl.
The homeowner, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and keeping a drug house, jail records show. He is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.
Fentanyl is a schedule II controlled substance in the U.S., meaning it has a high potential for abuse but can be legally prescribed by a doctor for pain relief. The drug is often mixed with heroin or cocaine to increase its potency, and can be deadly even in small doses.
