The cold winds of winter were blowing down the street, and it was only mid-November. For most people in the small town, this was a sign that it was time to prepare for the winter storms to come.

Everyone knew that having a well-stocked emergency kit was essential during any kind of severe weather. In their homes, they had supplies such as medications, food and water, personal papers, flashlights and batteries, and a first aid kit.

They also made sure their cars were winterized with antifreeze and snow tires so they could be ready to go in case of an emergency.

But while they may have been prepared for the worst, no one expected just how bad things would get. The snowstorm hit with unexpected ferocity, lasting for days on end and dropping several feet of snow on the town. Power outages were frequent and many roads became impassable due to heavy drifts.

With no way out of town, everyone was thankful for their emergency kits which kept them from going hungry or freezing in the cold temperatures. They even managed to help out some of their neighbors who weren’t as lucky when it came to being prepared.

When all was said done though, everyone agreed that having an emergency kit with all the essentials had saved them from potential disaster during one of winter’s worst storms.
