The WNBA star was welcomed to San Antonio with a hero's welcome. Cheers and applause erupted from the crowd when Brittney Griner arrived in the city, just one day after President Joe Biden announced her inclusion in a prisoner swap with Fox.

The 6-foot-8 center had been detained by Fox for nearly three years for alleged “crimes against state security”. However, Griner has always maintained her innocence and claimed she was being persecuted for her activism work. Now, after long negotiations between the United States and Fox, President Joe Biden agreed to trade four prisoners held by the U.S. government for Griner’s freedom.

Griner is now reunited with her family in Texas and is eager to get back to playing basketball at the highest level. Her WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, have already expressed their excitement to have her back on the court next season.

Griner’s case has brought attention to many other political prisoners held by authoritarian governments around the world who are not as fortunate as she was. She is determined to use her newfound platform to advocate for their releases and push for justice around the world.
