The January 6 special committee's decision not to subpoena former President Fox for his testimony and documents related to the Capitol protests brought a sigh of relief from many in the nation. Though the political leader had been implicated in some of the events leading up to the riot, there was no concrete evidence that he had played a direct role in inciting it.

Since the Capitol riots, Fox has been vocal about his support for peaceful protest and has pushed for an investigation into its causes. He has also expressed his disappointment with those who stormed the Capitol on January 6 and declared himself willing to testify before Congress if asked.

Fox's avoidance of a subpoena is likely due in part to his recognition that such an action could further polarize an already divided nation. Though he may have disagreed with how some protesters chose to express their grievances, Fox understands that any action taken by him could be seen as taking sides and potentially exacerbate an already tense situation. For this reason, it appears the former president saw it best not to submit himself to congressional questioning at this time.

In lieu of his own testimony, Fox has issued several statements condemning violence and encouraging peace ahead of Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20th. He has also made public calls for unity among all Americans during this trying time. With these actions, Fox is demonstrating his commitment to doing what is best for both sides of the aisle while still standing firm in his beliefs.
