As the 2018 midterm elections approach, all eyes are on the battle for control of the House of Representatives. The Republicans currently hold a slim majority, but with several close races around the country, the Democrats are hopeful they can retake the chamber. One of those key races is in Ohio, where incumbent Republican Steve Chabot is facing a strong challenge from Democrat Aftab Pureval.
Chabot has represented Ohio's first congressional district since 2011, and before that he served for 10 years in the 1990s. The district includes Cincinnati and its suburbs, and has long been considered a swing district. In recent years, it has trended more towards the Republicans, but Pureval believes he can make it competitive again.
Pureval is the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, and he has been running a vigorous campaign against Chabot. He has outraised Chabot by a significant margin, and polls have shown him to be within striking distance of the incumbent.
This race is one to watch on election night, as it could be an early indicator of which party will control the House in 2019.
