In an email obtained by Fox News, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was alerted that no migrants were "whipped" in an alleged "whipping hoax" at a migrant detention facility in Texas.
The email, sent on March 5 by an anonymous DHS official, said that an investigation into the incident found that "no one was whipped" and that the story was "not true."
"Gutfeld!" host Greg Gutfeld reacted to the news on Tuesday, calling it "the latest example of the media getting played by the Biden administration."
"Remember that story about how Trump was whipping migrants down at the border?" Gutfeld said. "Well, it turns out, according to an email obtained by Fox News, that didn't happen. No one was whipped."
Gutfeld noted that the story made headlines in major news outlets and led to outrage from Democrats and immigration advocates.
"But it turns out, just like the kids in cages story, it was all BS," he said. "Once again, the media got played."
Gutfeld went on to say that the email shows that the Biden administration is "willing to lie" about conditions at migrant detention facilities in order to make Trump look bad.
"So they'll say anything," he said. "They'll make up stories. They don't care if they get caught because their only goal is to smear Trump and his supporters."
