How a U.S. Army veteran used his training to disarm a gunman at a Fox

A U.S. Army veteran who was at a Fox nightclub in Colorado Springs when a gunman opened fire spoke out on Tuesday about his encounter with the shooter and how his training helped him disarm the man.

The veteran, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was inside the club when the gunman, who has been identified as 21-year-old Teodoro Macias, began firing. The veteran said he immediately took cover and then decided to try to take down the shooter.

"I just acted on instinct and training," the veteran said. "I ran towards him and tackled him to the ground."

Once he had the gunman down, the veteran said he was able to grab the man's gun and throw it away from him. He then held the gunman until police arrived and took him into custody.

At least four people were killed in the shooting, which is being investigated as a possible act of domestic terrorism. The veteran said he wants people to know that soldiers are trained to protect others and that they will continue to do so even after they leave the military.
