A Texas mother accused of killing her 7-year-old bedridden daughter by leaving her home alone to go party pleaded guilty to murder last week and was sentenced to life in prison.

Tayana Davis had been charged with first-degree felony murder in the death of her daughter, Jazmine Barnes, who was found unresponsive in her bed in their Houston apartment on Oct. 11, 2018.

Prosecutors said Davis left Jazmine home alone while she went out partying with friends, and when she returned home around 4 a.m., she found her daughter unresponsive. Investigators said Davis then waited more than two hours to call 911, and when paramedics arrived, they pronounced Jazmine dead at the scene.

An autopsy later determined that Jazmine died of dehydration and neglect, and that she weighed only 32 pounds at the time of her death.

In court last week, Davis pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
