It had been a dream come true for Lauren and her husband, Joe. After years of saving up for the trip, they were finally able to take the vacation of their dreams to Maui. On the second day of their trip, they decided to go snorkeling off the south shore.
Lauren was an experienced swimmer and felt confident in her abilities. She and Joe ventured out into the water, but soon enough, she found herself too far away from shore and exhausted from fighting against the current. Joe attempted to come to her aid, but he was unable to reach her in time.
When Lauren never returned from her swim, a search party was formed and investigators were brought in to try and figure out what happened. After weeks of searching with no luck, investigators finally determined that Lauren had likely become tangled in some nearby coral reefs and drowned before she could be saved.
