Texas Governor Uses Migrants as Pawns, Philadelphia Officials Say

Published: 22-11-2022 02:09

On Monday, a second bus carrying illegal immigrants from Texas arrived in Philadelphia, with city officials accusing Gov. Abbott of using migrants as pawns. The group of about 50 people was taken to a local church for processing.

This is the second group of immigrants that has been brought to Philadelphia in the last week, and city officials are angry that the state is dumping them there without any notice or preparation. "Governor Abbott is playing politics with people's lives," said Mayor Jim Kenney in a statement. "This is not who we are as a country, and this is not how we treat our fellow human beings."

The city is already struggling to deal with the influx of immigrants, many of whom are fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries. The mayor has asked the federal government for help in dealing with the situation, but so far there has been no response.
