This is the end of the Ram 1500 short bed!

Ram's 1500 pickup has been a staple of the automaker's lineup for years. But as the market shifts to larger, more luxurious full-size trucks, Ram will no longer offer a regular cab 1500 pickup with a short bed starting in 2023.

The decision to discontinue the regular cab 1500 was made as part of a larger strategy to reposition Ram as a luxury truck brand, according to sources familiar with the matter. The move will also help Ram better compete against its rival Ford, which offers a variety of full-size trucks including the popular F-150.

While Ram will no longer offer a regular cab 1500, it will continue to sell other variants of the truck including the crew cab and quad cab. The automaker is also working on a new generation of its 1500 pickup that is expected to debut in late 2022 or early 2023.

The next-generation 1500 will be available in a variety of configurations including a new off-road focused model that will be similar to Ford's F-150 Raptor. Ram is also planning to offer an electric version of the 1500 pickup, though it remains unclear when that model will be launched.
