Fred Lewis, star of the Discovery Channel reality show "Gold Rush," discussed what inspired him to work with veterans on his show. Lewis said he has a bigger plan than just showcasing them as gold miners on TV.

"I want to help these guys transition from the military back into civilian life," said Lewis. "There's a lot of skills that they've learned in the military that can be transferred over to gold mining."

Lewis said he hopes to eventually have a veteran-run gold mine on the show. He also said he is working with veteran-owned businesses to help promote them.

"I want to make sure that these guys are successful," said Lewis. "They've sacrificed so much for our country, and I want to help them in any way I can."
